Charles "Chuck" F. Lutolf Obituary

Charles “Chuck” F. Lutolf, 85, of Ewing, N.J., passed away on April 19, 2026, at Capital Health Hospital, in Hopewell, N.J.

Born in Hawthorne, N.J., Chuck grew up in Clifton and Franklin Lakes, N.J. He served in the United States Army, 1958-1964, before settling in Point Pleasant, N.J. in 1972, where he lived with his family for more than 40 years. He is a retired lieutenant from the New Jersey State Department of Corrections, where he served as a proud union rep for PBA Local 105 for many years.

Chuck loved the ocean and would spend every warm day possible, from April to October, at Bay Head Beach, near his beloved Bluffs, where he and his kids would take a break from the sun to have sodas and eat peanuts at the bar. He enjoyed spending time with his children, going to the gym, running, walking on the boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach, and exploring swap meets, flea markets and Allaire State Park. He loved riding his Harley, preferably without a helmet, and wore sunglasses almost always, even when inside, because he hated harsh lighting. He was a former member (a.k.a. “Mad Hatter”) of the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club, a former member (a.k.a. “Geezer”) of the Wild Pigs Motorcycle Club and a member of the Hired Guns Motorcycle Club. Later in life, he enjoyed hunting with friends and his grandson in the Pine Barrens.

Chuck was charming and funny, had an irreverent sense of humor, and loathed pretense. He loved language and was deft at wielding it, especially as a tool to skewer you with a comment or one-liner so funny even you couldn’t help but laugh at yourself. He taught his children to prioritize empathy and compassion toward other people over status and salary. He always said the best room at a party is the kitchen because it is more intimate, full of life and where all of the most interesting people were. He enjoyed hot coffee (lots of it), diet soda and bacon and toast burnt to a crisp.

He is survived by his wife, Anita Lutolf; four children, Shawn, Mark and his wife, Tracy, Daniel and Colleen Lutolf; five grandchildren, Brenden, Molly, Ryan, Charlotte and Coco Lutolf; his brother, John “Jack” and his wife, Judy Lutolf; his nephew, Michael Lutolf; his cousin, Chris Werkley; and his first wife, Janet Jaraczewski. He is predeceased by his parents, Otto and Frances (née Werkley) Lutolf; and his cousin and close friend, Philip “Buddy” Murphy.
