Mary Beth Boyle Agnes, 71, of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, at Capital Health Regional Medical Center, in Trenton, after a brief illness.
Mary Beth was quite the character—in the very best sense of the word. She was opinionated, sassy, full of color in both her clothes and her personality. Her personality and positive attitude was always uplifting and good for the soul. It was impossible not to smile at her whimsical humor and lighthearted outlook on things. She was always generous with gifts and her time, and quick to burst into laughter that often spiraled into uncontrollable snorting. As the oldest of seven siblings, Mary Beth had a big heart. She loved to shop, to spoil family and friends with thoughtful gifts, and to show up for loved ones on every occasion. She particularly loved the Christmas holiday season and had the not-so-subtle sweaters to prove it.
She worked hard for many years putting patients to sleep—and, as she liked to joke, doing the really tricky part of waking them back up. She delighted in simple pleasures: sitting outside and soaking up the beauty of her yard, sneezing in short little bursts, and spoiling her beloved grandpaws rotten. More than anything, she adored her two girls, Kelly and Amy. Mary Beth was also the sibling who kept everyone connected. She was great about picking up the phone just to chat—though it was always wise not to call while “Dancing with the Stars” was on.
Born in Richmond, Va., she was a longtime resident of Lawrenceville, N.J. Mary Beth began her nursing career as a registered nurse, then, while working weekends, put herself through nurse anesthetists school at the Medical College of Virginia. She was employed for many years with Capital Health Systems in Trenton, later in Hopewell and at St. Francis Medical Center, both in New Jersey.
A lifelong Catholic, Mary Beth was a parishioner at The Church of St. Ann in Lawrenceville. She attended St. Paul’s School and St. Gertrude’s High School in Richmond in her youth.
She was a loving and devoted mother, sister, aunt, nurse and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Daughter of the late Bill and Betty Boyle; she is survived by her two beloved daughters Kelly Agnes, and Amy Agnes; her siblings and their spouses William Boyle Jr. (Trish), Edward Boyle (Sue), Michael Boyle (Ceil), Ann Whipple (Pete), Bruce Boyle (Neny), and John Boyle (Grace); numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; her grandpaws Rex, Jack, and Sparrow.
Mary Beth’s daughters knew her the best, and their hearts are heavy with their Mom’s unexpected decline.“My mom was the strongest person I’ve ever known, and it’s a daunting prospect to go through this life without her guidance, opinions, and comfort,” Kelly said. “I am so lucky to have had you as my mother, and I am going to miss you every day.”
Amy said Mary Beth filled her life with “so much love, laughter, and light. “When I think of you, I’ll always picture your smile and the peace you found in the simplest things. You were the heart of our family, and the world is gentler, kinder, and brighter because you were in it.”
