Obituary of Theresa Callahan
Theresa Anne Callahan (nee Cassidy), of Plainsboro, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at the age of 97. Theresa was born on the Upper West side of Manhattan to Irish immigrant parents (Edward Cassidy and Catherine Sheehan). As a self-described “Women’s Libber”, Theresa believed in the value of women’s education, and earned her High School diploma at night while she worked. Theresa then enrolled at Hunter College, and earned part of her college degree. Theresa married Edward Callahan in 1950, and the couple settled on Long Island and raised their 6 children. In the 1960’s, Theresa went back to school and finished her undergraduate degree in Education at Queens College. She taught elementary school for 20 years and earned her Masters in Education at night. Theresa enjoyed the intellectual challenge of teaching and the friendship of her fellow teachers. Theresa was a devout Catholic and she enjoyed Bible study groups and teaching CCD. Always quick to laugh, Theresa never lost her sense of humor, even in her last days. On July 15th of this year, Theresa and Ed celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. Their marriage and lifelong partnership is the foundation of a large family that reaches across the U.S. and spans many generations. Theresa will be sorely missed, but we are grateful to have had her in our lives for so long. Love you, mom.
