Obituary of James "Jim" W. Bolcsak
James “Jim” W. Bolcsak, 77, of Lawrenceville, NJ passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 with his loving wife by his side.
Jim was born in Toledo, Ohio, and both he and his wife Lois have been longtime residents of the Lawrenceville area.
Jim enjoyed many accomplishments in life, both personally and professionally.
After high school he pursued his passions for chemistry, mathematics, biology, and philosophy and became fluent in reading, writing and speaking the French language.
Jim earned a BS and MS in chemistry from Ohio University and Xavier University respectively where he found many friends and mentors.
Jim moved on to the department of biochemistry at Iowa State University. Here, Jim first met his future wife and earned his PhD in biochemistry.
Jim worked for Celanese Corporation (KY) then FMC Corporation (NJ) as a research chemist. His work transitioned into intellectual property and he became a registered patent agent. He began working at the firms of Harrison, Segal & Lewis LLP and then at Pepper Hamilton LLP. Both facilitated Jim’s earning his J.D. from Rutgers School of Law (Camden).
Jim moved on to Sanofi-Aventis as a senior manager with Aventis Pharmaceuticals. Although he continued to work in the intellectual property arena, his background and credentials also opened doors to participation in broader areas central to the pharmaceutical research-to-market process.
His broad technical background, intellectual property experience, and even his fluency in French ultimately converged to provide a personally interesting and challenging career to Jim and an asset to the companies for which he worked.
From their first meeting, Jim with Lois, his wife of over 40 years, have always shared many personal goals and professional interests. Visiting national parks and sharing vacations in remote cabins with their much loved labrador retrievers were among their favorite memories.
Memorial contributions to honor Jim may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital
