Hey lady,
It has taken so long for me to write something. A part of me feels like if I don’t write something it’s not real!
I tell people all the time you were the greatest mother, the greatest teacher, and you loved everyone with every breath!
There is so much I wanna say/could say, but I don’t believe there’s enough space for me to do such.
It is because of you that I Know how to survive with two pennies To rub together.
You are one of life’s greatest JOY!
Not only did you teach me so much, but your grandchildren as well and I would be remiss not to mention George, George (the black leather belt ) “don’t make me go get George” lol
Played a big part of my life and I thank you for that!
Mommy, Because of you, I’m a huge Jackie Wilson fan. I remember saving up to buy you the CD collection from Best Buy because I knew you wanted it,
Like I said, there’s too much to be said, but you are the greatest Mother.
You would move heaven in earth,
Take the shirt, shoes off if needed to provide for us.
Love you with all of my heart until we meet again.
Donyell (your oops, lol)
XOXOXO

Q: What did Janet like to do in their free time?
A: My MoM & I enjoyed going to the nail shop together. It was a time to relax and enjoy
the Massage chair while getting a pedicure. Afterwards, we would move to a nail chair where we would get our pedicures. My Mom took such great care of her nails! When it was time to cut and trim her nails, she would always say “no no no” just file and shape and then polish! She always had long beautiful natural nails and she loved showing them off.

Janet's Eulogy presented by Carla M. Shabazz:
On behalf of Janet’s family, we thank you and welcome you to our celebration of Janet’s life. Today we honor, respect and remember an amazing woman who touched and enriched our lives in so many ways.
Losing a mother is one of the most heart-wrenching experiences anyone can go through. The void left by a mother's absence is vast and the memories left behind deserve to be commemorated. I am honored and grateful to have been asked by her children to eulogize, their mother, Janet Lennon.
I have known Janet for over forty years since my sister Paula began dating and later married her son John. When I think of Janet, I remember her as a strong woman, a survivor. She raised and supported her five children, Poppie, Karen, John, Sonny and Donyell as a single parent. Janet ran her house with rules and demanded respect from her children and anyone who entered. She worked hard, primarily as a NJ Transit bus driver and was committed to her job. She ran her bus like she did her home. She was proud of how she handled unruly passengers and would often tell us stories about her day while sitting around the kitchen table and she had some good ones.
Janet was kind and generous especially when it came to her cooking. I believe one of the ways she expressed her love was by cooking some of her famous dishes, the ones I loved most were her potato salad and macaroni and tuna salad which were a staple at any family event. I don’t think anyone can do her potato salad but her granddaughters Jalyn and Maddie can copy her macaroni and tuna salad very well.
Janet was also very creative. She would make centerpieces and other elaborate crafts for parties and celebrations. She loved to party and loved to dance. I remember one time when Janet made ball gowns for barbie dolls as centerpieces for a party. They were beautiful and I remember being in awe of her creativity. She could do amazing things with a hot glue gun. Janet loved to decorate her house for different holidays, especially Christmas, which was her favorite holiday. There are many pictures of her with Santa in her adulthood. She had an enormous collection of Christmas decorations most of which she got on sale. She was a serious shopper mostly with her number 1 shopping companion, her cousin Jeannie, the two of them could shop for hours all over NJ back in the day. Janet would decorate a beautiful Christmas tree that sometimes stayed in the living room until the summer. Everyone would ask “When are you going to take down your Christmas tree?” She would always have a slick response like “when I want to”!!!
Janet loved to travel. Wherever her two sons were traveling to she was going. I got to spend time with her at Myrtle Beach every year since our first trip in 1998. We used to have themed parties and Janet had the absolute best party, which was Hawaiian themed. Her villa had a corner lot and she went all out. There were decorations and games and great food, which included her potato salad and macaroni and tuna. She was so fun loving, always smiling and enjoying her family. She also traveled on all of our Disney cruises and took pictures with a lot of the Disney characters. There were very few, if any trips that she missed. The longest trip we took was our cross country vacation in 2008. It seems so long ago but it also seems like just yesterday. She got the opportunity to travel with her 2 sons, John and Sonny and four of her grandchildren for 38 days. Janet always treated me like I was her family, my children even called her Grandmom which she welcomed without hesitation. Janet and I used to have a Diet Coke for each other, it was one of the special things that her and I shared. In her later years I always took pleasure in making sure she had an ice-cold Diet Coke, because it always put a smile on her face.
Last but certainly not least Janet loved her family. She always invited her mother and siblings to celebrate the special occasions in her life and the lives of her children. She was so proud of her children: Poppie, who, although he lived far away was always close in her heart, Karen, who, she spoke of often, sharing stories of her travels in Hawaii and once settling in Virginia kept in touch and visited often especially when her grandkids were involved in events. I want to pause and take this opportunity to recognize Karen for the exceptional care she provided to her mother, her constant and consistent presence represented God’s love as expressed through her devotion and love.
John, who was the one she went to when she needed advice and counted on for many things and her daughter in law Paula who she loved and adored, she was so happy that Paula married John.
Her beloved Sonny, who was her road dog and always allowed her to travel along with him, they grew extremely close after her retirement seeing each other daily and her baby girl Donyell, who she loved dearly lavishing her love through celebrations of her and her accomplishments.
Quick story, when I was in my twenties I was going to see Prince in concert. I paid good money and had great seats. Once Janet found out I was going she asked me to take Donyell, we loved ourselves some Prince. So of course I said yes, when we got to the concert she wanted to buy a t-shirt, I thought it was too expensive but Janet had given her a wad of cash, I think she was 10 or maybe 12. I was so jealous cause after buying the expensive ticket I was broke. That’s how generous Janet was.
Janet was a good grandmother sharing her generosity through gifts, gestures of love and her presence in their lives. She always showed up, especially at her grandsons sporting events. She was a true fan of their talents.
In closing, I am sure Janet would not want this to be a sad day for us, so please let’s shift our thoughts from how we will miss her to one of your own funny and happy times you shared with Janet. Let’s all remember the good times. Let’s remember her love, kindness and generosity and let’s continue her legacy by sharing those gifts with others in our lives.
God bless you Janet, I pray that you are greeted by the Angels and Sonny and that you sleep in peace, Job well done!!

Mommy, After all these years, “79” beautiful years of life I will never forget the unconditional love you have given. I will always remember the encouragement given, the challenges overcome, the triumphs celebrated, the laughter and tears, the prayers and blessing but most of all how you always welcomed us home with big hugs & kisses and a famous “cup of tea.” Your famous trademark “Come on inn, want a cup of tea?” We would sit around the table for hours sharing memories of the past while making new ones! Mommy, every time I think of you which is often, I will thank GoD for giving us a phenomenal Mom, who gave her best in life and now it’s time to rest in His hands! I will always miss you, Momma! I love you always, Mommy❤️
Until we meet again, Karen

A mother, where do we begin… Smart, Loving, Caring. Mom would always say I want my children to have all the things I couldn’t afford then I want to move in with them. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of Love… Mom, I love you and will miss you. You will always be in my heart. You have taught me to be the wonderful man I am today. Love you, Miss you. You will never be forgotten your son, Johnathan. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

We met Gmom years ago at Myrtle Beach when Sonny invited us to be part of the Jersey crew family camping. We looked forward to seeing everyone every summer and spending 2 weeks together. The whole family embraced us and treated us like a part of the family. I was amazed at the closeness and love the family shared. It became apparent that she taught them all to be loving and caring. Every time I hear Smokey Roberson I always think of Gmom. I always enjoyed the conversations we had and the dancing!! Dave and I are so thankful to have had the pleasure of meeting her and the rest of the family. We are honored to have been able to attend her beautiful funeral and be welcomed by all. We love you all and appreciate all the friendships! Your Tennessee family, Dave, Kay, Collin and Kinley Harber

Janet and I met when our children, Sonny & Kim fell in love. Janet was already surrounded by a slew of grandchildren and I became Cameren's Babci for the first time and eventually became all her grandchildren's Babci. Janet was a loving matriarch of her large family but as her "grandbabies" knew, you didn't mess with her until of course, when they became teenagers, when they messed with her all the time. She was a loving and caring mother and
g-mom but she was a wonderful friend too. If we weren't together at 405, we were celebrating at John and Paula's or simply hanging together at our usual eatery, the Route 1 diner. J would order her "well done" burger, with one slice of raw onion. She'd order her bun "without seeds" which never arrived. Eventually, I'd trade her seeded bun top with my unseeded bun bottom since her diverticulitis couldn't handle the seeds, it became part of our routine. We also shared our villa at MB. She was a remarkable decorator too. Do you remember Sonny and Kim's wedding reception where she decorated the fire house to look like a winter wonderland? Some of the wind went out of her sail when her Sonny boy passed, they're back together again now. One last thought, J couldn't have been blessed with an angel here on earth better than her daughter Karen, who lovingly cared for her mom for close to seven years. We all need to keep Karen and the family in our prayers as they mourn their loss and Karen begins her own recovery. I miss you buddy!
With love, Mary Ann Gregorek (a/k/a Babci)
