I just heard of John's passing tonight. John and I were lifelong friends starting in the first grade at St. Hedwigs. We saw each other almost every day from the first grade through high school at Notre Dame. The baby boomers were in full force in the 60s and we all played sports, baseball at Dales Field, basketball at Burroughs and football in the Brunswick Circle. Lost a few footballs to trucks when the ball was too long. John for his size was a really good athlete in his prime and was pretty quick and had good hands. John was the best man at my wedding back in the 70s. Not sure how I got him on the plane to Texas. I think that was his first and last flight. As time passed, family, jobs and distance made getting together hit or miss. But we stayed in touch, the last time was this past Thanksgiving. John always ended his calls with "I love you" when we spoke. I'll miss those calls and hearing from John as I have for almost 65 years. He was a dear friend. We Love You too John, Steve & Candy Owcarz

Steve and Candy, Hope this email finds you both well. I just saw this today. Very sorry to hear of John's passing. You brought back great memories from our days living on Ohio Avenue. Our neighborhood was a great place to live because of great guys like you and John. Rest in peace John. Jim McGuire
